This series comprises records related to African American congregations started by the American Lutheran Church's (ALC) Commission on Negro Missions and its predecessors in the ALC and the Evangelical Lutheran Joint Synod of Ohio and Other States. Record types include handwritten and typewritten business correspondence, monthly attendance reports, church newsletters, mission reports, property documents, meeting minutes, and brochures. The bulk of the record type is business correspondence. Subject matter of this and other record types includes financial matters regarding budgeting and property matters, staffing concerns, congregation development, mission starts, and issues involving general congregational matters regarding membership, mission, and ministry.
